AFROPUNK Joburg Returns
AFROPUNK is back in Joburg for its second year! Having had its debut last year, attendees were treated to performances by international and local talent alike. The line-up included Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals, Laura Mvula, Dear Ribane, Petite Noir, Nakhane, King Tha Vs Blk Jks, Thebe, Rude Boyz, Sho Madjozi, Blitz The Ambassador, Jojo Abot, DJ Kenzhero.
While this year’s AFROPUNK lineup is not yet announced yet, the international festival has launched a Treasure Hunt with a difference. This exploration will give potential festival-goers clues and quotes to guess the lineup before it is announced, and give them a chance to win a VIP trip to AFROPUNK Joburg 2018. AFROPUNK Joburg’s influencers will be announcing these Treasure Hunt clues and quotes leading up to the festival at the end of the year. This includes clues from Sho Madjozi, Manthe Ribane, YoungstaCPT, Muzi and many many more. These influential South Africans embody this year’s theme, ‘The People Resist’, which is a call to arms against racism, patriarchy, and any form of hate.
The festival takes place annually in Paris, Brooklyn, Atlanta, and now Johannesburg. This 13-year-old festival is an influential community of young people of all backgrounds interested in music, art, film, lifestyle sports, fashion, photography, and more. Last year’s AFROPUNK in Joburg brought out a staggering 20 000 people to Constitution Hill, with this year’s easily set to top the last. 
In the build-up to the event, there is also Battle Of The Bands which seeks to unearth new music talent, with last year’s winners being Stiff Pap and Automatic Live. You can sign up for Battle of the Bands here.
AFROPUNK Joburg is being held at Constiution Hill in JHB, on the 30th and 31th of December 2018.
