Comic Con is Coming to JHB Next Weekend
This year's Comic Con Africa is gearing up to be the biggest one yet! With last year's inaugrual event seeing over 45 000 visitors and 212 exhibitors, it's clear that this year is not to be passed up on.
Expect almost 300 exhibitors offering specials on everything from gaming hardware and accessories to apparel, pop-culture merchandise, comics, figurines and much more. Spend the long weekend stocking up on sought-after collectables and new releases!
And what would Comic Con be without international guests from the industry? This year features stars like legendary actor, author, producer and director, William Shatner, who became a cultural icon for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek franchise as well as Anthony Mackie, who has achieved global recognition with his portrayal of Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also, expect Bran Stark from Game of Thrones, Will Sliney, known for working on Marvel’s Amazing-Spiderman and Venom comic author Donny Cates, who will also be there on the long weekend.
In terms of actors and voice actors from the gaming side of things, expect Troy Baker and Nolan North. Troy is known for characters like Joel from The Last of Us, Booker DeWitt from Bioshock Infinite, as well as Pegan Min from Far Cry 4. Nolan North has grown to become one of the most prolific actors and voice actors in gaming, being the voice of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted Series, Desmond Miles in Assassin's Creed, as well as Meepo the Geomance in DOTA 2.
Comic Con is obviously here for the local talent. Joining them is Sean Izaakse, a Marvel illustrator and comic artist who has worked on comics such as The Thunderbolts, Avengers, Deadpool, Captain America and The Uncanny Avengers.
On top of all the appearances, talks and signings, Comic Con Africa will have your cosplay needs met. There will be a Cosplay Karaoke Café, as well as a Championships of Cosplay competition.
