Greg Mike x Nike Mural Installation in Atlanta
Check out the latest in Nike's Art of SNKRS series, a series that the Swoosh, in conjunction with its own SNKRS app, started to celebrate the visual arts component of sneakers. Continuing the series, Nike commissioned the help of Greg Mike in Atlanta for a new pop-up.
A native of the city, Mike fused his longstanding inspiration from the region’s culture with his surrealist pop art style to create the expressive mural, “On the Rise.”
Recognisable Atlanta landmarks such as Peachtree St., the downtown skyline and a MARTA train get turned into quirky characters in the piece. Taking cues from Nike’s popular Air Jordan 1 “Banned” colourway, the work is painted in black and white with splashes of red adding colour throughout. Meanwhile, a large Air Max sneaker and an “AIR” illustration add striking logo placements.
“If I’m able to create something that somebody can look at and that will make them pick up a paintbrush, a pencil, a camera…get out in the world and try something they haven’t tried before, I think it’s a success. That’s always the goal, to hopefully inspire future generations like other artists have inspired me.”
