Karabo Poppy x Nike By You Air Force Collection

Congratulation to Poppy on her Nike By You collaboration!

A first for a South African artist, Karabo Poppy has teamed up with The Swoosh for an Air Force 1 collection that’s inspired by the her local roots and our country's rich culture. And thanks to Nike By You, you can make it one of a kind too!

Nike‘s customisation platform has often been used as a podium to let artists worldwide tell their stories, and Poppy’s tale is centred around two different things: the vibrant colours found in traditional African beaded bracelets and the omnipresent beauty salon posters that can be found on the streets of her Joburg hometown.

Each shoe sees rich tumbled leather as its base, but after that, the possibilities are endless! You can add striking red, orange, green and purple accents, or simply leave the upper tonal if you desire. Alternate textures are an option too, with the ability to add embroidered line graphics, grooming tools like combs and scissors, or striking patches to any piece of the top half. For finishing touches, you can also equip heel tabs and/or custom lace dubraes in both metallic and matte, which feature Poppy’s signature word-mark graphic or more salon tool-themed embellishments. Check out some examples below!

Poppy's work has been seen on everything from the Soweto Towers and the first custom African basketball court, to bags with Pond's and labels for Odd Bins - and it's so great to see her go on to achieve this massive collaboration with one of the world's biggest brands. It's only the start!

Karabo Poppy's customisable Air Force 1 collection goes live this Thursday 7 November here. Prices are still to be confirmed though.

Got to be a part of the first custom basketball court designs in AFRICA 🏀✍🏾! Worked with @futurajoburg, @nike, @lucky_lady_luke and @falko1graffiti to put these courts together. We even got a feature on @hypecourts and @hypebeast. Make sure to head over to Zoo Lake in Johannesburg to see the courts. — — — #BattleForceJHB #ZooLake #Nike #Basketball #StreetArt #KaraboPoppy #Johannesburg #HypeCourts #HypeBeast #Hypebae #WomenInIllustration #Illustration #Design #Crocodile #Cheetah #BattleForce #SouthAfrica
