Nike Air Yeezy Costs R1,6 Million
In 2009, Kanye West released the first Nike Air Yeezy sneaker in three colourways. It quickly became the most popular sneaker release of the year with resell prices reaching astronomical numbers. The Nike Air Yeezy didn’t drop out of nowhere though, Kanye debuted the silhouette himself in 2008. 
Performing at the 2008 Grammy Awards, Kanye gave 'Ye fans and sneakerheads alike a first-look at the Nike Air Yeezy. The sneaker featured an all-black upper and a glow-in-the-dark outsole, referencing Kanye’s Glow in the DarkTour for 2007-08. This colourway was never meant for the public though and did not join the black/pink, zen and net versions of the Nike Air Yeezy 1 on release day 4 April 2009. 
Now that sample pair has turned up at Flight Club, and as you can imagine, the price is mind-blowing. The market value of this Nike Air Yeezy 1 sample “Grammy” stems from the fact that it was never released to the public, and of course, that it was worn by the man himself. However, another reason the price is so high is that Kanye is now with adidas, meaning Nike Air Yeezys are historic, never to be released again. All the Nike Air Yeezy’s values sky-rocketed when Kanye spilt with the swoosh, with the unreleased sample fetching the highest price. The sneaker is regarded to not only represent an iconic moment in footwear, but one of the most memorable Grammy performances of all time, all of which contribute to the price. Any sneaker Kanye works on turns into an instant goldmine, as you can see below. However, these "Grammy" prototypes are the king when it comes to price.
