Egyptian Lover - 1984
Commonly referred to as “The King of the 808”, his skill with the machine and absolute cosmic energy makes him the legendary pioneer of electro.
Run DMC - 1986
Raisin’ Hell releases, cemented by the concrete of 808 beats. The machine is now often referred to as hip hop's equivalent of the Fender Stratocaster.
Kanye West - 2008
On “808’s and Heartbreaks” the drum machine breaks its way into public consciousness and becomes a calling card of Ye’s signature sound.
Modern Day
The 808 has solidified itself as the most iconic drum sound in music. Its sub heavy kick and pitched toms are all over the airwaves and often recreated.
