The Best FIFA World Cup 2018 Kits
The FIFA World Cup kicks off this Thursday the 14 June! While everyone is eagerly awaiting the opening match between Russia and Saudi Arabia, we have rounded up some of the best kits we have seen so far. This list is in no particular order.
Japan Home (adidas)
Japan’s Home kit takes inspiration from its fashion heritage, with the white detailing that runs across the front of the jersey referencing traditional Sashiko stitching. You can also see touches of white and red, which reference the country’s flag.
Senegal Away (Puma)
Senegal’s kit is primarily white, with contrasting green detailing around the collar and along the sleeves. The stand-out feature of the jersey is the large drawing of a lion in traditional Senegalese style, a reference to the teams “Lions of Teranga” nickname.
Croatia Away (Nike)
Croatia sees their iconic red and white checkered theme applied to their darker away kit too. The lines between the squares are blurred with the checks coming in a bigger pattern than ever before. The jersey’s dark blue colour palette is a reference to the team’s traditional role as dark horses in the tournament.
Nigeria Home (Nike)
I’m sure it comes as no surprise that Nigeria’s home kit is on this list. It is considered the best kit of the entire tournament by most and has already been pre-ordered 3 million times. The kit features eagle wing-inspired black and white sleeves and retro green torso design. Nike state that the aesthetic of the kit fits the team, who are described as, “Audacious. Fast. Fun. Stylish.”
France Away (Nike)
Although it initially appears to be a plain white jersey, France’s away shirt pays homage to the nation’s flag with a subtle red and blue hyper-speckle knit that runs throughout the shirt. To be worn with navy and white shorts and socks, the jersey also features Fast Fit Vaporknit technology.
Germany Home (adidas)
The winners of the last World Cup take inspiration from a classic kit in the team’s past. The shirt which is predominantly white is inspired by Germany's 1990 kit. The iconic red, black and orange pattern running across the shirt has been replaced by a similar pattern in three different black/white stripe variations, with “Die Mannschaft” placed on the gold World Cup winner badge.
Iceland Home (Erreà)
Iceland’s kit is thanks to Italian sportswear brand Erreà and takes inspiration from the the country’s natural landscape. The elements of water, ice and lava are represented by the red, white and blue colours used, while the team’s motto of “FYRIR ISLAND” (“For Iceland”) is placed on the inside of the shirt.
South Korea Away (Nike)
South Korea’s World Cup kit is also based around the colours of the Korean flag. The predominantly white jersey features a custom blue and white wave pattern designed to reflect South Korea’s global influence. This design is offset with a number of black touches, including the badge, numbers and Nike Swoosh.
Serbia Away (Puma)
Serbia’s kit is predominately white, with contrasting thick red stripes on the collar and sleeves. The kit also features a strong print on its front with the red, white and blue of the country’s flag running down the middle, ending in a gradient.
