A Look at Nike Vomero
From the dad aesthetic to nineties chic, the cycle of fashion sees items being popularized for a multitude of reasons. It is undeniable that this phenomenon is seen particularly if the piece is either trending, borrows cues from the past, or the item is unique. The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “Timeless” blends all three of these pull factors in a remarkable reimagining of the retro-style running shoe.
Originally released in 2011, the Vomero briefly stepped back into the streetwear scene in 2020 with the A-Cold-Wall* x Nike collab. Now, making a strong return with reimagined colourways, construction and designs. Enmeshed with various textiles all sitting beneath industrial plastic accents, this understatedly cool sneaker is gaining the recognition it deserves as a Nike classic.
The 2023 Zoom Vomero 5 acts as the second iteration of the Nike Dunk Low “Timeless.” Here, the basketball shoe took design cues from the Vomero and presented it in the silhouette of a Dunk Low. This time around, we see black material panels mimicking leather in the construction of a Dunk, affixed to the Zoom Vomero 5 sneaker. These overlays wrap around the toe box and heel and are loosely attached to the sneaker through the lace unit.
Underneath this covering, the sneaker is a standard white, grey and black Vomero embellished with a split-design tongue label and pack-exclusive branding found on the insoles.
This design feature allows for regular wear-and-tear and removal of the overlay to expose an entirely new, but always classic sneaker. What makes this Zoom Vomero 5 “timeless”, is its innovative and futuristic design where whether the sneaker contains the Dunk panelling or not, it will always be sneaker heritage.
