adidas Will Only Use Recycled Plastics by 2024
adidas recently made the inspiring announcement that they plan to use only recycled plastic for all their products by 2024. The brand aims to remove the use of all ‘virgin’ plastic from their products, meaning plastic that is used for the first time by adidas. This includes polyester, which is used in everything from t-shirts to sports bras, due to the material’s lightweight and quick drying time.
The brand with the Three Stripes also said it would stop using virgin plastic in its offices, retail outlets, warehouses and distribution centres, a move that would save an estimated 40 tons of plastic per year, starting in 2018. adidas has already begun its environmentally conscious efforts with the Parley range, and says that the 2019 S/S apparel line will contain around 41% recycled polyester. 
The change will see one of the world’d largest sportswear brands, which launched the first mass-produced running shoe made from recycled water bottles in 2016, target $5 Million in sales of recycled footwear this year, and a crazy $11 Million in 2019. This is despite the 10% to 20% price increase when using recycled plastics over virgin ones.
An estimated eight million tons of plastic enters the world's oceans every year, about one garbage truck’s worth of plastic every minute. So it's great that adidas is using their power to combat this.
