When it comes to iconic sneakers, the Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Black Cat’ is undeniably one of the best and 2025 is truly starting off with a bang, with the re-release of this 2007 heritage design.

The "Black Cat" nickname goes way back to Michael Jordan's pre-college days, where his teammates and rivals coined the term to reflect his remarkable skill, agility, and effortless movement on the basketball court. The first Jordan shoe to adopt the nickname was the “Black Cat” Jordan 4 in 2006, which set the tone for future releases under the design theme with its stealthy all-black makeup. A year later, the "Black Cat" Jordan 3 followed, and now its return 18 years keeps the legacy alive.

The 2025 retro does right by the original with a black nubuck upper, greyscale elephant print on the toe and heel panels (and laces), and a glossy patent leather mudguard. However, much like we saw with the recent “Black Cement” retro, many have been quick to point out that the elephant print sections are a bit lighter this time around.

The Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Black Cat’ drops on Saturday, the 11th of January 2025 and will be available via live store and online raffle. The sneaker is available in men’s and Grade-school sizes via in-store live raffle at 8:00am in our Cape Town & at 10am in our Joburg store along with an online raffle from our online store which opens today (the 10th of January) between 9:00am- 13:00pm. STORE - LIVE RAFFLE

Live store raffles take place on Saturday, 11th of January.

Cape Town times: Armbands handed out at 8:00am, raffle start at 8:30am.

Joburg times: Armbands handed out at 9:30am, raffle start at 10:00am.

1. Arrive at Shelflife CPT or JHB before 8:00 (CPT) / 9:30am (JHB)

2. Shelflife employees will hand out Raffle arm bands at 8:00 (CPT) / 9:30am (JHB) when the live raffle draw begins. No participants can join the line after 8:00 (CPT) / 9:30am (JHB).

3. You must have a valid ID/passport with a matching credit/debit card in order to purchase.

4. If your number gets called, you gain access to the store to purchase one of the released sneakers. Please note sizes are limited and Shelflife cannot guarantee pairs or sizes. Only one entrant may enter and cannot be accompanied by anyone. Entrants must be over the age of 12 years old.

5. No swapping of arm bands is permitted; broken arm bands will not be accepted.

6. 1 (one) arm band per person.

8. Shelflife has the final say in all sales of the Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Black Cat’.

ONLINE RAFFLE

The online raffle opens today, the 10th of January between 9:00am – 1:00pm.

Winners will be contacted on the 10th of January before 5:00pm.

1. This raffle is free and open to everyone in South Africa ONLY.

2. By entering your name, shoe size, valid bar-coded ID or Passport and email address, your name will be entered into the draw for the opportunity to buy one pair of the Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Black Cat’ in your size and selected colourway at the given date and time.

3. To qualify for the opportunity to purchase online, you must have a confirmed online profile/account with shelflife.co.za. To create your account, please sign up. Please ensure your account is updated with contact details and shipping information. If you have already created an account with shelflife.co.za in the past you do not need to create a new one.

4. After completing an online profile, you can enter the raffle via our dedicated link with your details from 9:00am until 1:00pm. If you enter multiple times you will be disqualified.

5. Your entry is valid only if the following requirements are met:

• You have a valid Shelflife account with an email address matching the one used for the raffle entry

• Your valid delivery address is saved to the Shelflife account before entering the raffle.

• You have not entered multiple times with the same name, email address or ID number.

• You are residing in South Africa.

6. The winners will be drawn randomly, and contacted before 5:00pm today (Friday, the 10th of May), via email only (please ensure the email you created for your online profile matches your online competition form). Online Raffle Winners will have until midnight on the 10th of January to make payment for their online order.

7. Successful entrants will be eligible to purchase the size they have selected ONLY in the online raffle form and must settle payment in full prior to receiving their pair.

8. Each successful entrant will have the right to purchase one pair of the Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Black Cat’. in the size they indicated on their entry. Entrants may not swap sizes nor request another size than the one they indicated in their entry.

9. Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Black Cat’ is R4099 (men’s) and R2999 (GS) and is payable via online order only. All info is contained in the winning email.

11. Shelflife has the final say in all sales of the Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Black Cat’.
