Air Jordan 5 Retro SE UNC University blue
The AIR JORDAN 5 RETRO SE drops on the 4th of March at Shelflife. The popular retro design is now back with a powder blue colourway that pays homage to Jordan’s early days at the University of North Carolina.
The official colour combination of University Blue, Black, and White features throughout as the sneaker gets covered in a Carolina Blue nubuck construction all throughout the upper. As always, the Air Jordan 5 features Silver 3M reflective tongues, complete with an embroidered Jumpman.
Accented by a ‘Team Jordan’ woven label on the back, collegiate patch on the heels and “Heart” and “Soul” wording behind the tongues, this Air Jordan 5 ties all the classic features of the shoe you love. Lightweight cushioning comes courtesy of a black polyurethane midsole, accented with speckled shark-tooth detailing and fitted with a visible Air-sole unit in the heel. Underfoot, a translucent herringbone-traction outsole provides optimal grip.
Originally released in February 1990, the Air Jordan V was designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield . Air Jordan V’s main design inspiration was the aggressive look of the iconic World War II era fighter planes painted to look like a shark—hence the zig-zagging tooth-like midsole detail, which has been carried through ever since.
New features at the time included a reflective tongue (with a unique protruding design and look), translucent rubber soles and lace locks. It was worn repeatedly by Will Smith in the popular sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with the Metallic Silver, Grape, and Fire Red colorways, further entrenching its popularity.
