Bad Bunny x adidas

To say that Bad Bunny has come a long way in the last few years is an often over-quoted understatement. He is undoubtedly one of the biggest artists on the planet, skyrocketing to fame and garnering massive double-digit-million social media following, hit singles, Billboard Awards, Grammy's, Spotify record-breaking smashes, run-away sold out global performances - the list goes on and on.

Over the last few years we've also seen his personal style evolve and delight, including an ongoing collaboration on a line of adidas silhouettes, picking some of their OG classics and updating them with a unique Bad Bunny flavour.

Ahead of this weeks release of his newest offering, an all-white & neutral adidas Campus, we take a look at the partnership over the years.

Bad Bunny and adidas began their creative relationship in 2021. Characterized by voluminous construction and bold colours, the musician praises his upbringing in Puerto Rico as a design reference point. The collaboration is grounded by the Forum Buckle Low. March 17th marked the arrival of Bad Bunny ‘s first-ever collaboration with adidas: the Forum Buckle Low. Positioned to be long-term, this partnership is but an introduction to the unique artist’s taste, playing off both his reputation as a style icon and his personal love for sneakers.

These Bad Bunny x adidas Forum Buckle Low borrows heavily from its talent’s perspective. “The First Café,” colourway draws inspiration from a cup of coffee and the appropriately dubbed the “Easter Egg,” the colourway packs not only festive additions but also a colourway subversive relative to the coffee inspirations of its predecessor.

The all-black pair might tell Bad Bunny's most personal story given that it’s directly inspired by the footwear he wore with his school uniforms as a child while teasing the cleanest and most popular pair in this collection. Having wiped out every one of his IG posts, Bad Bunny started 2022 with a clean slate. His upcoming adidas Forum Low, too, is getting a welcome refresh, forgoing the strap it donned back in 2021 and thanks to the shots from the artist’s latest music video, we’ve received one of the cleanest looks at the shoe yet.

The latest effort, which effectively combines the upper from the adidas Forum with the tooling of the adidas Power phase, the Puerto Rican-native and Mayorga doubled-down on the use of stacked layers that had appeared on past releases. Bad Bunny’s love of late 1990s, early 2000s skate proportions and fondness for a game titled “Catch and Throw” that he played as a child ultimately led to the upcoming sneakers’ untraditional colour harmony and old school specifications.

Bad Bunny initially had kept relatively quiet about his adidas Response CL collaboration. First seen on the Puerto Rican superstar’s feet back in January 2022 as part of a photoshoot for Vogue, the “dad shoe” most recently appeared in a mostly yellow colourway during the artist’s stop at Los Angeles’ the Forum venue on February 26th. Reintroduced from the archives towards the end of Summer 2020, the adidas originals silhouette couples’ performance-oriented mesh bases with a slew of synthetic leather panels throughout the upper.

If there was a short list of people whom had the best 2022, Bad Bunny would certainly be on it. In addition to breaking touring and streaming records, the Puerto Rican superstar expanded his adidas partnership to move more units and do more good and before February ends, the monumental collaboration is set to drop its first pair of the new year: an adidas Campus in “Cloud White.”

The unreleased pair seen in the artist’s “El Apagón” music video and mini-documentary appears like a new silhouette from the German sportswear brand, but closer inspection reveals design cues rooted in the 1970s and 80s. Hairy suede makes up the entirety of the sneaker’s base layer, with profile 3-Stripes branding interrupting the scheme with their equally muted leather material. Lower heel areas feature a non-standard support overlay reminiscent of the adidas Country and select vintage pairs of the Campus. Other details include double tongues and heel design with Bad Bunny’s signature logos on the tongues and insoles. The shoes are also housed in special packaging.
