Brain Dead x Reebok: Release Info & Past Collabs
Coming together once again, LA-based Brain Dead flips the Reebok Club C and Shaqnosis models - complete with the usual fluffy details.
Founded by Kyle Ng and Ed Davis, Brain Dead takes inspiration from post-punk, skateboarding and underground comics. Brain Dead is defined by its erratic, internet-based designs and prints, collaborating with brands you might not have expected. From Magic the Gathering to The North Face and THEM SKATES rollerblades, Brain Dead like what they like and their collaborations are born from this genuine love for the culture they are creating for.
The brand is unstoppable at this point, with collaborations each month and even its own cinema (BRAIN DEAD STUDIOS) to express the brand's vision of its community. In terms of Reebok and Brain Dead's relationship, the brands started collaborating in 2018 but have stacked the releases since then. Here's a look at the past Brain Dead x Reebok work, as well as release info for the 2022 release between the brands that are dropping Friday 12 August.
Brain Dead x Beams x Reebok Classic Leather
Starting off the line-up with a bang, Beams and Brain Dread gave the Reebok Classic Leather a makeover in 2018, along with a track top and pants. The pair arrives in a blue and grey colourway with hits of green leather, completed with BRAIN & DEAD on the heels. The apparel took influence from the Japanese BEAMS partner, transforming the track jacket into a kimono with co-branding on the back.
Brain Dead x Reebok Classic Leather
Following on a couple of years later, Brain Dead had another run on the Classic Leather. This release saw a theme that's been carried over to the 2022 release - fluffy details. The upper of the collaboration was based around a mesh base accented by shaggy brown suede, as well as fuzzy laces. The release also included a puppet video by Tucker Phillips - watch it here. This was also our first Brain Dead x Reebok release at Shelflife.
Brain Dead x Reebok Beatnik & Pump Court
The next Brain Dead collab with Reebok set its sights on the Beatnik and Pump Court. With its animal print and interesting mix-up of colours, the Beatnik sold out instantly at our stores and is sought after today for those that remember. The Pump Court also saw the same pony material with a Brain Dead logo front and centre on the pump.
Brain Dead x Reebok Zig Kinetica II
Going extraterrestrial in 2021, Brain Dead created the ZIGMAN for their release of the Zig Kinetica II models. Coming in two colourways with yet another amazing promo video, the release was inspired by Japanese Sofubi Kaiju toys with crazy colours that faded into one another.
Brain Dead x Reebok Shaqnosis and Club C
Bringing us up to 2022, Brain Dead leave their mark on two new models for the brand - the Club C and the Shaqnosis. Shaquille O'Neal's signature shoes gets hit with furry green and beige upper with fluffy laces to match. This is the first time the Shaqnosis has ever looked like this, all thanks to the wild mind of Kyle Ng.
The Club C follows the fluffy theme with a dark navy and green upper combined with a brown suede and Brain Dead replacing the Reebok branding on the side. The pair is completed with green fluffy laces, very similar to the laces seen first on the Classic Leather release from Brain Dead.
“We wanted to find a material that reminded us of natural ground, we thought about tennis courts and grass – from there it sprouted.”
The Brain Dead x Reebok Shaqnosis and Club C drops Friday 12 August online only at 10am.
