Celebrating Converse x Patta with Kid Fonque and Fernando Damon

To celebrate the Converse X Patta Four Leaf Collaboration Pack dropping at Shelflife this Friday the 10th of March, Shelflife and Converse ZA teamed up with two extraordinary people.

One of the major focuses of Patta through all their projects and collaborations, very in line with Shelflife’s, is to shine a spotlight on their friends in the community doing amazing things both locally and globally.

For us, this meant taking the concept of the Converse X Patta Four Leaf Collaboration Pack, which focuses not only on luck and chance but looks at it through the mode of music.

We looked to both sides of a similar coin, an OG with more than two decades under his belt through various sides of the music ecosystem in SA, and a young man whose interest, passion and effort speaks volumes about the future of the scene he’s cultivating.
Enter Kid Fonque and Fernando Damon. Two incredible protagonists and friends of SL.

Kid Fonque has become a vital part of South African electronic music and club culture over the last 20 years. Uniquely accomplished in both influence and scope, he is a DJ, Producer, Label Owner of Stay True Sounds, Promoter, and National Radio Host on 5FM and more recently he has moved abroad to take up the reigns as head of A&R at Defected Records, one of the most important commercial dance labels on the planet. Firmly established as a tastemaker in South Africa, Kid Fonque’s influence can be felt and heard in the music of the many artists he has helped nurtured and the sounds he pushes globally.

Drummer, Musician, DJ and Record Label owner of Teal Street, Fernando Damon shares some incredible similarities with Kid Fonque in terms of his quality and commitment to the South African musical landscape. His dedication to his craft, level of taste and love for nurturing young artists around him is a powerful statement and an essential precedent in the future of music coming out of Cape Town.
We got some insights from both artists about their views on luck, chance and energy with regards to their own journeys and careers.

Special thanks to the good folks at One Park and The Other Records in Cape Town for allowing us to shoot in their beautiful spaces.
All campaign images and videos were shot and edited by Matt Bouch and Ramon Mellett for Shelflife.
