CONVERSE X FRAGMENT 2023
The sneaker world is no stranger to Fragment Design, aka FRGMT, working beside some of the biggest names in streetwear. Extremely hyped pairs like FRGMT x Air Jordan 1 High and the FRGMT x Travis Scott on the same silhouette, featured the brand’s iconic blue… and 2023 brings us the return of Fragments iconic colourway in FRGMT x Converse 2023 collection. Holding an extensive history of working with Converse, and following the brands’ collaborative By You program earlier this year, Fragment’s latest collab relaunches the Converse Weapon Mid and accompanying varsity jacket.
At the heart of the collab lies the revamped 2014 Weapon silhouette, designed by the mastermind behind FRGMT, Hiroshi Fujiwara. The designer’s meticulous attention to detail and pursuit of minimalist aesthetics have merged with Converse's rich heritage to bring back this sneaker, which is reminiscent of the Air Jordan 1 (a silhouette Fragment is very familiar with).
Thoughtful colour-blocking sees a clean white base with “Sport Royal” blue on the collar and on the side logos. Black panels at the toe and at the heel “Y-Bar” adds a contrast that helps Fujiwara recreate his iconic colour scheme in a new way. The infamous FRGMT lightning bolt logo is debossed on the side of the shoe, adding a subtle yet elevated touch to the sneaker's clean look. The Fragment Design x Converse Weapon is complete with a simple collab in-sole.
This collection would not be complete without shining light on a streetwear staple, the varsity jacket. The item features a Melton wool body in a vibrant light blue, white faux leather sleeves and a nylon lining. Collab branding appears embroidered on the front of the jacket, and in rubber silk screen print on the jacket sleeve. A converse star covers the back of the in an almost understated way, showcasing Fujiwara’s considered design choices.
The collab between Fragment and Converse is brought to life through impeccable construction, ensuring that every detail is executed perfectly. With the FRGMT x Converse Weapon silhouette at the forefront, this collection showcases the way in which collaboration in streetwear is essential as it can reimagine timeless silhouettes.
