Daily Paper x Converse 'Colours of Independence' Collection
Daily Paper elevates their distinctive blend of contemporary streetwear and African heritage with a limited-edition Converse collection. Unique quilting patterns, embroidered details and pan-African colours unite style and culture on the iconic Chuck 70, modern De Luxe Squared and an array of bold apparel.
In 2012, three childhood friends from Amsterdam founded Daily Paper to express their shared love of fashion and to celebrate cultural connections. The brand thrives on blending creativity and inclusivity, with streetwear designs deeply rooted in African heritage. This approach has gained them a global community of Daily Paper fans. Their latest collab with Converse highlights this ethos by reimagining iconic converse pieces, bringing their unique cultural narrative and a focus the importance of connections.
The ‘Colours of Independence’ Collection celebrates freedom and cultural pride, where the Daily Paper founders used their heritage as inspiration. “I think when we were there, we were really inspired by their old advertising and the messaging. And then we saw the star on the classic All-Stars, which is such an important symbol for me and my co-founders. I’m from Somalia, Jefferson (Osei) is from Ghana, and Abderrahmane (Trabsini) is from Morocco. Coincidence or not, we all have a star in our flags. I don't know, it just felt good.”
The collection consists of two sneakers: the Chuck 70 and Chuck 70 De Luxe Squared. Both sneakers have a black colourway and use yellow, green and red detailing - the pan-African colours. A striking feature of the Chuck 70 De Luxe Squared is its angular sole. As the name gives away, the sneaker has a square toe, which gives the pair a modern look.
The Chuck 70 features the well-known Daily Paper motif on the upper. Like the De Luxe Squared silhouette, the sneaker comes with a colourful outsole. The heel features the Converse emblem, embellished with the same colours. Finally, the inside of the tongue features “Stay Informed,” the slogan of the Amsterdam-based label.
In addition, the 'Colours of Independence' collab comes with matching apparel, in the form of a jacket, shirt and skirt. The Malden Jacket is complete with the ‘Daily Paper’ logo embroidered throughout to create an embossed pattern, while the all-black simple skirt has elevated cargo detailing. Lastly, the shirt keeps it classic with a red, green and red piping.
Daily Paper goes beyond fashion; it’s a movement that encourages young people to embrace their heritage while promoting inclusivity. This collection symbolizes cultural unity, creating a platform for meaningful dialogue through fashion.
