Driemanskap Presents: "Game of Thrones"
Driemanskap is a three-member hip-hop group formed in 2001, consisting of Ma-B, Redondo, and Dla. Known for their high-energy, electrifying performances, they are at the forefront of the new wave of South African Hip Hop, addressing important issues and proudly representing Cape Town.
Last week Friday our Cape Town store was honoured to host an intimate screening for Driemanskap’s latest track, ‘Game of Thrones.’ The evening was a true celebration of all South African music, culture and community, using Driemanskap’s work and ethos to spark meaningful discussions and connections. The night was elevated by an n-store bar sponsored by Hennessy.
Game of Thrones
"Game of Thrones (GOT)" is a follow-up to Driemanskap's previous track, Spaza Gods Cypher. In this song, the group reinforces their status as deities, refusing to be compared to mere kings. Their wordplay is sharp, their delivery powerful, and their lines deeply relatable, making it hard to contest their claim to greatness. The track showcases their lyrical prowess and solidifies their position in the rap game, standing far above competition with undeniable confidence.
About Driemanskap
As pioneers of the Spaza movement, Driemanskap's unique style blends isiXhosa, English, and Cape Flats slang. The hip hop group have performed alongside global icons like Kendrick Lamar, Alicia Keys, Wu-Tang Clan, and South African legends such as Simphiwe Dana and Cassper Nyovest. Their 2013 European tours, in support of international collaborations like 'KWAAI Worldwide' and 'Cape Town Effects,' took them to major music festivals. A significant highlight was performing at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in 2016 with acts like Lizz Wright and Mafikizolo.
Beyond music, Driemanskap is deeply involved in community activism, working with initiatives like Young in Prison and founding the OutSpoken Initiative to address youth issues. They’ve extended their outreach to juvenile centers, orphanages, and refugee camps in neighbouring countries, continuing this mission even during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
Their discography includes two mixtapes, Battle of Gugulethu Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, followed by their debut album Igqhabukil’iNyongo and the successful second album Hlala Nam, solidifying their place in the South African music industry.
