Event Recap: A Tribute to Hugh Masekela with Spotify MOM & Shelflife
This past weekend we celebrated Spotify’s African Renaissance with a four day event spotlighting emerging sounds and art in the Mother City. Just like any renaissance, the impact lives on far beyond its time, and we’re still taking in the sounds, culture and incredible talents that ignited Cape Towns street.
At Shelflife, we kicked off the Spotify MOM weekend in partnership with the Hugh Masekela Heritage Foundation with a tribute to the father of Jazz himself. The night was a true coming together of friends, family and everyone who makes up the Shelflife community - sharing in our gallery space spotlighting Bra Hugh’s life, and incredible vinyl sets by Atiyyah Khan and Paul Waxon. As a legend in South African history, we took things a step further with an official Hugh Masekela capsule collection tee and tote.
