IPAF festival is back in 2023 and asking 'What if'

The International Public Art Festival (IPAF) is set to take place in the Company’s Garden, central Cape Town from 1-5 March 2023. Celebrating public art, and back for its seventh year, artists will use their voices and hands to create thought-provoking public artworks under the theme of What If. This year’s theme seeks to push the boundaries of the 'known' to expand minds, spaces and societies.

IPAF is an inclusive free-to-public festival that welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds. In addition to the art installations, the festival will feature sculptures, digital artworks, outdoor pop-up exhibitions, performances, street art tours and much more. The festival offers a unique opportunity for the public to engage with art in public spaces, creating a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere in the city.

You can choose to walk, run or cycle – enjoy the festival art route using the festival guidebook or book a spot on one of the guided tours (R70-R100) to see first-hand the creativity and talent of local and international public artists. You'll learn about the history and meaning behind each piece of art, as well as the social and cultural impact of public art on our community. It's not just about the art – it's about the people and the stories behind it. You'll have the opportunity to meet and interact with artists, other art enthusiasts, and to hear their personal experiences and perspectives on public art.

Street art tours are taking place four times a day (09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00), giving you the opportunity to learn about the artists and their inspiration behind the works, as well as the history of the surrounding areas.

The festival is organized by Baz-Art, a non-profit organization that aims to promote public art and create opportunities for artists in South Africa. IPAF has become one of the most anticipated cultural events in Cape Town, attracting thousands of visitors every year.

The artist line-up includes internationally acclaimed graffiti artists such as Aches from Ireland, and the globally famous JONONE 156 from France. Local line ups include the likes of Dekor one and Pixel One, as well as many many more!
