New Balance 1906R "Protection Pack"
New Balance continues to make waves in the sneaker world with its constant revamp of heritage designs. The latest addition to its line-up is the expansion of the "Protection Pack," building on the success of the initial launch featuring the 2002R "Rain Cloud" in 2021. Following the hype of the Rain Cloud release, New Balance sets its sights on the revived 1906R silhouette, presenting a new iteration that showcases the “Protection Pack’s” signature raw and uncut aesthetics.
The journey of the "Protection Pack" began with the 2002R due to its unique and unfinished appearance. This was a catalyst for New Balance to introduce a bunch of new colourways, and now, also extend into the world of silhouettes.
Originally introduced in 2010, the New Balance 1906 made a triumphant return in 2022, now tagged with the "R". This new title signifies a shift from the original full-length gel cushioning of the OG 1906, to a heel-only cushioning platform- a design choice seen in the 2002R model. The 1906R has quickly gained popularity, thanks to both its in-line releases and beloved collabs with Aimé Leon Dore and COMME des GARÇONS, placing this once overlooked silhouette on the sneaker radar.
This release showcases the 1906R silhouette in all its glory, sporting both an all-white and all-black colourway. The monochromatic sneakers boast the distinctive and unfinished styling that defines the "Protection Pack" aesthetic by its rugged leather overlays on the upper and N-Lock logo. The intricate cut-outs of the upper all sit atop a mesh base, rounded off by the Ortholite insoles and classic N-ERGY sole units.
The New Balance 1906R "Protection Pack" extension stands as a testament to the brand's ingenuity and ability to stand out in the world of streetwear while still paying homage to its running roots.
