Few silhouettes sit on the throne of sneaker royalty and the Air Max 1 is definitively part of the sovereign family.

One of the most iconic yet unexpected silhouettes to drop this year is the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Keep Rippin Stop Slippin 2.0.’ Originally released in 2008, it was part of Nike’s ‘Greatest Hits’ pack, which included the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Keep Rippin Stop Slippin’, Nike Air Stab ‘Runnin’ Gunnin’, and the Nike Air Max 90 ‘King of the Mountain’.

The Air Max 1, introduced in 1987, was groundbreaking with its visible Air-Sole unit, a technological innovation that not only provided exceptional cushioning but also became a defining aesthetic element. The 'Keep Rippin Stop Slippin' theme pays homage to the vibrant skate culture of the late 80s and early 90s. The phrase itself reflects the fearless attitude of skateboarders who pushed the boundaries of their craft, ripping through tricks while defying the odds of slipping or falling. Nike, known for its ability to capture and celebrate various subcultures, incorporated this ethos into the design of the Air Max 1 PRM 2.

The 'Keep Rippin Stop Slippin 2.0' version represents a continuation and evolution of the original concept, maintaining the core elements while introducing new details to make it fit for 2023. This latest rendition opts for a toned-down palette compared to its predecessor. Hairy suede replaces the original Safari print panels with creamy leather overlaying breezy ‘Vast Grey’ mesh, on the upper that was once a vibrant orange. The heel counters get dressed in red ‘Keep Rip’n Stop Slip’n’ text while the whole look is rounded off with custom graphics from the original pack feature on the translucent Waffle sole.
