Orlando Pirates by Thebe Magugu
One thing about Thebe Magugu, he’ll always rep his South African roots.
Having garnered a mountain of headlines, A-list fans including Rihanna, and partnerships with brands like Valentino and Dior, Thebe has been infiltrating the fashion industry since his 2019 LVMH Prize win. Despite his popularity, Thebe always reminds us that he is one of the biggest supporters of South Africa and all it encompasses.
As a designer who uses carefully constructed design and dynamic pieces as a means of storytelling, it is only fitting that he has partnered with Orlando Pirates and adidas ZA to tell the story of one of the motherlands biggest and most beloved soccer teams.
It is always incredible to see local designers doing relevant things for their home country and this collab is a prime example of this. Following Daily Paper’s Ajax kit which paid homage to their Dutch roots and UK designer Stella McCartney repping Arsenal, the Thebe x Pirates collab is joining the global conversation of sports and fashion.
Thebe Magugu added his Midas touch on both the Black “home kit” and the Pistachio Green “away kit,” creating the Pirate’s skull logo in his signature contemporary line-work design.
With the design of football kits being an unspoken league of its own, the Thebe Magugu x adidas x Orlando Pirate’s ‘23/’24 Kit definitely sits at the top of the log.
