Patta x Experimental Jetset x Converse Chuck 70
To walk is to read. To read is to walk. Converse teams up with Amsterdam’s Patta and design agency Experimental Jetset on a new conceptual Chuck 70, inspired by unexpected city exploration and what the streets tell us when we let them speak for themselves.
The idea of psychogeography is to defy the prescriptive directions leading you through a city, and instead drift, explore and wander in a more natural, free-flowing way. This collaboration isn’t about the sneakers, but where you take them. Go for a walk. Wander with no destination. Reject the autopilot routes you typically travel and explore based on impulse.
Cities are an infrastructure of language. Psychogeography allows you to read it. It’s a way of decoding the city—guided by whims, encounters, surroundings and what the streets tell you. The walk is a dialogue with your surroundings—leading you to new discoveries and unexpected situations.
The Chuck 70 design utilises a stark white canvas and foxing with vivid blue and red arrows and text that distorts their meaning. Defy the traditional map and let your feet wander. Right is Left. Left is Right. South is North. West is East. Defy where the directions are telling you to go and let the streets speak for themselves.
Founded in 1997 in Amsterdam, Experimental Jetset is a small, independent, graphic design studio with a simple mantra: “turning language into objects.” The studio’s modern style focuses on printed matter and conceptual, site-specific installations, and their work is recognized globally and featured in exhibitions at world-renowned institutions.
