Right Now with Nabihah Iqbal
Nabihah Iqbal is a London-based musician, broadcaster and curator. She recently performed at the Search Festival in Cape Town for New Years. Along with her music, Nabihah is the host of a show on NTS Radio where she explores music from around the world. With her latest album, Dreamer, releasing this Friday, we caught up with the London-based musician to find out what she’s up to right now.
NK: Where are you right now?
NI: In my bed.
NK: Dream collaboration?
NI: Kendrick Lamar.
NK: Which artist do you have on repeat right now?
NI: Aldous RH.
NK: Favourite episode of your radio show on NTS?
NI: Probably the Muslim jazz special we did a few years back. Being a part of the research for that episode was a proud moment for me.
NK: Project you're working on right now?
NI: Planning the album release for this Friday and rehearsing for the live shows has taken up a lot of my time. But I’m also a guest star at Brighton Festival this summer, which is the biggest art festival in England, so that’s been pretty exciting.
NK: What drives your creative process?
NI: Emotions – music helps me channel and process emotions I can't process any other way.
NK: You’ve spent a lot of time in Cape Town recently, what’s your favourite place in the city?
NI: That’s easy. The swimming pool in Sea Point! It’s probably one of my favourite places in the whole world.
Nabihah Iqbal’s latest album, Dreamer is available this Friday, 28 April on all music streaming platforms.
