Shelflife & Edition Events presents PUMA Mostro Rhythm
Few sneakers hold the allure and history of the PUMA Mostro. Originally launched in 1999, the Mostro gets its name from the Italian word for monster, which described its new, experimental look that successfully merged the sleek, sprinting spikes of the 1960s with surfing shoes of the 1980s. Fast forward to 2024, and PUMA has once again revived this iconic shoe, capturing the essence of avant-garde design and sporting heritage.
Just as the Mostro blends together various sneaker designs, we celebrate this upcoming release with a three-way collab with Shelflife, Edition Events - a trusted brand in nightlife culture, and PUMA. As innovative a silhouette now as it was back then, our Mostro Rhythm events aim to push the same cutting-edge by bringing together a thrilling mash-up of our collective communities, genres, backgrounds, styles and vibes!

Join us on the 12th of July in Joburg and on the 13th of July in Cape Town, to truly get immersed in the world of the PUMA Mostro. The invite only party will bring the same experimental vibe of the sneaker, with incredible headliners like Maglera Doe Boy, DJ Lag, and DJ sets from locals in each city.

ABOUT THE PUMA MOSTRO:
The story of the Mostro begins in the early 2000’s, challenging traditional footwear at the time with its daring and futuristic design. Inspired by the streamlined look of martial arts shoes, the Mostro featured a distinctive form characterised by its sleek, elongated shape and bold strap closure system. This unconventional design not only set it apart in looks but successfully walked the line between sports and fashion, and still does more than twenty years later.
Making its return at New York Fashion Week back in February with various metallic and bright renditions, the 2024 Mostro is proving to keep the essence of the original but with elevated detailing. Following this, the April PUMA x Ottolinger Mostro release brought us an all-silver Mostro Perf with mirrored leather fabric and brightly coloured accents. Most recently, ASAP Rocky, the creative director of the PUMA’s F1 partnership, stepped out in a fully spiked pair at the AWGE show. The upcoming Mostro release later this month lands in a white and in a black colourway that incorporates a mesh upper, overlaying PUMA Formstrip in black, as well as an elastic strap closure.
