This past weekend the streets of Joburg got to experience the adrenaline-pumping fusion of music and skateboarding with the much-anticipated arrival of Spotify’s Skate Noise. The exciting event did not disappoint, delivering a day filled with dynamic performances, high-energy skateboarding, and an immersive musical atmosphere.

Skate Noise is Spotify's international innovative event series that combines the raw energy of skateboarding with the pulsating beats of live music. The most recent event brought together skaters and music lovers in a celebration of creativity, freedom, and the vibrant spirit of South African youth. Through Skate Noise, Spotify hopes to showcase the unique sound of the Johannesburg Skateboarding community by highlighting the connection between skateboarding and music.

The night was set against the backdrop of Maboneng, in Joburg’s inner-city and filled with sounds by some of South Africa’s best Dj’s and musicians. One of the focal points of the event, was undeniably the skating, which saw a mix of skaters from Island Gals Shred and Session Skate Mag coming together to spotlight our countries talent, and simply share in the sport they love. While the line-up included some incredible sets and live performances by Uncle Partytime, Lil Plvg, The Qwellers, Tha Cutt, Twenty One Children, Insertcoinz, Shameless, Muzi, K. Keed and Deniecé Marz.

Skate Noise Johannesburg goes beyond music and skateboarding - it’s also about building a community. The event also featured a pop-up gallery space that showcased some incredible skate-themed works, interactive installations and drinks sponsored by Jack Black, creating a festival-like atmosphere where people can connect, share their passions, and celebrate urban street culture.

Spotify’s Head of Marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa, Sithabile Kachisa, expressed her excitement for the event: "South Africa's skateboarding scene boasts a rich history dating back to the 1960s. Skate Noise steps into this legacy, celebrating the powerful fusion of music and skate culture that thrives in Johannesburg's energetic streets. We're bringing a unique experience to South Africa, designed to spark creativity and forge deeper connections among attendees."
