Throwback Thursday: Shelflife's Air Jordan V 'Wolf Grey' 2011 Launch Party
The year is 2011, Headlines by Drake is playing on loop on your Blackberry Curve, everywhere you go people are wearing skinny jeans from Jay Jays, Kanye is unproblematic, Instagram can only take square pics, and Jordan Retro has not yet reached its heights in SA nor in global pop culture.
Shelflife is part of a handful of streetwear stores globally throwing launch events for sneakers, getting likeminded sneakerheads together (sneakerheads is a not a dirty word yet), to celebrate newly released Retro’s- many of them for the first time. The Jordan V is still an incredibly hard silhouette to get and is finally releasing in the coveted ‘Wolf Grey’ colourway.
We hosted a party for the launch of the Jordan V, at our one and only space at the time, 119 Loop Street. The party featured friends, family, DJ’s and artists that we love and support in the scene. Looking at the faces in the crowd, one can truly see the future of sneaker culture in South Africa and we were lucky to be a part of it.
In the crowd, amongst others that night, is Rolo Rozay, Justin Ronné, Cheslyn Meyer, Zaid Osman, Nonku Phiri, Nick Herbert, Calhoun Matthews, Dr Zulu, Atang Tshikare, Lucky Ntuli, Max Mogale, Kent Satram, Fersyndicate, the Head Honcho guys, Anthea Poulos, Anthony Smith, Brad Abrahams, Roger Gordan and Siya Ngwekazi.
Some of the artist in line-up was our very own Jakobsnake, Remy Cold, White Nite, P-Kuttah and a very young, untattooed, starting out his carreer, Riky Rick.
It was definitely one for the books.
