Vault by Vans x Geoff McFetridge
This Holiday season, Vault by Vans and celebrated artist Geoff McFetridge deliver a vibrant capsule of apparel and footwear that embodies genuine creative expression and timeless style. McFetridge applies his signature sensibility and eclectic approach to five iconic Vans silhouettes in a diverse array of graphic styles that demonstrate the power of imagery. Born in Canada and based in Los Angeles, Geoff McFetridge’s art work covers multiple forms, bridging painting, drawing, graphic and industrial design, film, and textiles. McFetridge has been awarded the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Award as well as the AIGA Medal, while also producing work for major global clients and galleries. With Vault by Vans x Geoff McFetridge, the artist celebrates his relationship with another longtime partner, Vans, in a graphic homage to youth culture.
“As a skater I have a close personal history with Vans,” McFetridge shared. “I have done a number of projects over the years but this collection was an opportunity to create a microcosm of my personal history with the brand. My thinking with projects like this is that they can be approached in the same way you might approach creating a piece of art. Both grow out of a similar process, and though the results are different, they feel like they are pulled from the same world.”
Vault by Vans x Geoff McFetridge leads with the OG Authentic LX featuring a series of recreations of fabrics pulled from the artist’s favorite items, like a worn shirt he wears for painting, his trusted 20-year-old tote bag, his most beloved pants, and a pair of Vans he bought during childhood travels to Japan. Three unique versions of the OG Slip-On LX reflect a similar approach; a pair built from scans of his paint splattered tees, a style covered in patches that take the form of icons that speak to the creative process. The designs are drawn from his life history and feel lived-in and full of detail. Two additional styles round out the collection’s footwear offering. The OG Style 38 NS features artwork in the form of a label of McFetridge’s “Jump” graphic and the OG Lampin LX is decorated with a minimalist, hand-drawn sketch exploring figure and form.
